Smoking cocktail

A smoking cocktail is a cocktail to which fragrant smoke or a smoke bubble is added to enhance the experience. The smoking effect intensifies the aroma, stimulates the senses and creates a spectacular moment at the table.
At a company party, trade fair or private event, a smoky cocktail is sure to grab people’s attention. Guests will see the mist curling out of the glass or pop a smoke bubble themselves. That brief moment of surprise makes your event just that little bit more memorable.

How to make a smoking cocktail
A smoking cocktail can be made in various ways. At Bar Company, we mainly use aromatic smoking techniques, such as the Flavor Blaster. This device creates a cloud of smoke or a fragrant mist on top of the glass.
The smoke does not mix with the liquid, but hovers above it. As soon as the bubble is pricked, the aroma is released and immediately enhances the scent and, with it, the taste experience. The base of the cocktail remains intact, whilst the experience is taken to a whole new level.
We can also present cocktails under a glass dome filled with smoke. The moment the dome is lifted, the aroma subtly wafts around the table. Perfect for an awards ceremony or product launch.
Smoking cocktail with dry ice or using the aroma technique
When people think of a cocktail with smoke, many immediately think of dry ice. Whilst this does indeed create a visible smoke effect, it requires careful and professional handling.
Dry ice consists of solid carbon dioxide, which is extremely cold. It must never be swallowed directly. That is why, in most cases, we opt for aromatic smoking techniques. This method is safer for guests and offers greater control over aroma and flavour.
Brief overview:
- Dry ice causes thick, low-lying fog
- The aroma of smoke creates a subtle scent experience above the glass
- Aroma techniques influence the taste experience without diluting the cocktail
For events, the aroma technique is usually the most sophisticated and safe choice.

How does smoke affect the flavour of a cocktail?
Smell plays a major part in what we taste. By adding a specific smoke or aroma, we enhance certain flavour notes in the cocktail.
Think of orange smoke with a Negroni for extra depth, a light hint of cinnamon with an Espresso Martini for warmth, or fresh citrus smoke with a gin cocktail for a summery feel.
The smoke does not alter the recipe, but adds an extra dimension to the overall taste experience.
