- 2 limes
- 2 tablespoons cane sugar or sugar syrup
- Ice cubes

How to prepare the Mojito
Step 1: Make the sugar syrup (optional)
If you want to use sugar syrup instead of cane sugar, it's best to make it in advance. Sugar syrup is a mixture of sugar and water that can be used as a sweetener in cocktails. To make sugar syrup, combine 1 part sugar with 1 part water in a saucepan and heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. Let the mixture cool before using.
Step 2: Prepare the mint leaves
Remove the mint leaves from the stems and wash them gently under running water. Drain well and then place them in a large glass or cocktail shaker.
Step 3: Add the cane sugar or sugar syrup
Add 2 tablespoons of cane sugar or simple syrup to the mint leaves. Don't use regular granulated sugar, as it doesn't dissolve well and can affect the texture of the cocktail.
Step 4: Squeeze the limes
Halve the limes and squeeze the juice over the mint leaves and sugar. Stir well with a spoon.
Step 5: Add the rum
Add 50 ml of white rum to the mixture. Stir well again.
Step 6: Add the ice cubes
Add a handful of ice cubes to the mixture. The more ice cubes you add, the longer the cocktail will stay cold. Stir well again.
Step 7: Add the sparkling water or soda water
Fill the glass or cocktail shaker to the brim with sparkling water or soda water. Stir well again.
Step 8: Garnish the Mojito
Garnish the Mojito with a sprig of mint and a slice of lime. You can also add a straw if you like. We always do.

How do you make the Mojito perfect?
Our cocktail shakers make the Mojito perfect by following these tips:
- Always use fresh mint leaves.
Dried mint leaves do not have the same taste and texture as fresh leaves.
- Do not use regular granulated sugar, but cane sugar or sugar syrup.
Regular granulated sugar doesn't dissolve well and can affect the cocktail's texture. Cane sugar also has a more subtle flavor that complements the other ingredients better.
- Try different types of rum to discover which flavor best suits your personal preference.
White rum is the traditional choice for a Mojito, but you can also experiment with dark rum or even gold rum.
- Want to make the mint flavor even more intense?
Then gently rub the mint sprig along the rim of the glass before adding it to the cocktail.
- It is important to stir the Mojito well, so that the sugar dissolves well and all the flavors are well mixed.
Use a spoon to stir everything together well.
- For an extra kick, you can add a few slices of hot pepper to the cocktail.
This gives the Mojito a spicy kick that goes perfectly with the fresh taste of the mint and the sourness of the lime.
- For a non-alcoholic version of the Mojito, leave out the rum and add extra mint and lime instead.
Replace the rum with soda water or sparkling water and you have a deliciously refreshing drink without the alcohol.
- Serve the Mojito in a tall glass with plenty of ice.
This keeps the cocktail nice and cold and fresh, which goes perfectly with the taste of the mint and lime.
- Finally, experiment!
Play around with the ingredient ratios and discover which flavors best suit your personal preference. For example, add more lime for an extra tart flavor, or use less sugar for a less sweet cocktail.
With these tips, you'll make a perfect Mojito in no time. Enjoy it on a warm summer evening on the patio or simply on the couch at home. You'll feel like you're in a tropical paradise. How delicious!
