Last Thursday, we made cocktails using three cocktail shakers at a lively company drinks party. Everyone who uses the Thornico building in Rotterdam was there. We attend company drinks almost every week, but the format of this event was slightly different from usual. This was all down to the passion of our client and operational manager, Richard.
Company drinks reception with special cocktails
He looks after three bee colonies on the highest roof of the Thornico building. At a height of 45(!) metres, the city’s ‘highest bees’ make their home here, forming a striking addition to the building’s sustainability policy. Every year, these bees produce more than 100 kilos of honey, which can be put to good use in the production of mead. The in-house beekeeper started making mead in 2016, and this has recently led to his first bottled batch. So it’s time for a proper mead tasting!
Mead cocktails
We had the pleasure of organising this tasting session, which consisted of sampling two types of mead and a mead cocktail. To begin with, the two types of mead were served in tasting glasses, allowing guests to experience the pure flavour. The tasters were very impressed with the product from their own ‘garden’. There were two varieties to try: 11.5% and 27%. Richard created the latter as a nod to the Danish owners of Thornico. ‘Those Vikings must have some strong stuff, of course!’ joked Richard as he gave us a brief tour of his workshop beforehand. It was here that we also discovered that making mead and cocktails is very similar. So it was all the more fun to get stuck into the mead cocktails! Once everyone had finished the first part of the tasting, they were able to try a brilliant mead cocktail. We’d devised a Strawberry Mojito made with mead especially for this occasion, to show just what’s possible with mead.
All in all, we thought it was really great to be able to host this tasting session, and it was a very creative and enjoyable alternative to a company drinks party!
Would you like a cocktail catering on your next staff party? Then why not consider a cocktail shaker for hire.
