Your prayers have been answered! The Japanese brand Uniqlo has arrived in the Netherlands, and Bar Company helped with the grand opening.
Uniqlo
The fashion chain Uniqlo is sometimes described as the Japanese H&M, offering a huge range of affordable basics, denim, sportswear and outerwear. Last Friday, Uniqlo opened its first shop in the Netherlands, in Amsterdam. The total retail space of the huge building is 2,040m², and there are entrances on both the Rokin and Kalverstraat.
Many fashion enthusiasts will be delighted by the opening of the Amsterdam branch, as the label frequently collaborates with designers and celebrities such as Pharrell Williams and, more recently, J.W. Anderson.
Matcha latte
As we didn’t want the opening to go unnoticed, we began promoting Uniqlo ten days before the opening. We did this by treating thousands of people to matcha lattes outside the new shop and at other locations around Amsterdam.
Matcha what? Matcha latte. Matcha is tea made from the first flush of tea leaves. The tea is ground into a bright green powder. By adding frothed milk, you get a matcha latte. So it’s a sort of cappuccino, but without the coffee. These drinks were chosen because matcha, just like Uniqlo, comes from Japan. So it’s an easy connection to make.
Uniqlo x Bar Company
Especially for this massive project, we’ve fully branded our coffee cargo bikes with Uniqlo advertising. In addition, the cups were printed with the Uniqlo logo and our 18 baristas wore Uniqlo clothing.
The opening
The grand opening was a great success. It also generated a lot of publicity, as the opening was covered by several major media outlets. Our baristas had a queue of enthusiastic customers throughout the opening weekend.
